Demonstrate Your Knowledge of User Interface Design to Prospective Employers

If you want to stand out to prospective employers, make sure that your resume and web design portfolio clearly demonstrate that you make it standard practice to incorporate the principles of good user interface design into your work. When hiring web developers for in-house or design firm jobs, companies are looking for skilled professionals who can design, maintain, and continue to improve websites that deliver results. That means that they must not only be appealing in appearance but that they must also be creative with the experience of end users in mind. After all, designs that look good but that are not consistent and intuitive won't be effective.

When selecting projects that you have completed to include in your portfolio, make sure that the sites demonstrate that you "get" the user interface design process. Select sites that are excellent examples of graphical user interface design and show that your skills are current by including examples of your mobile user interface design skills. Be sure to stress skills specific to software user interface design in your resume, specifically listing the various user interface design tools that you utilize in your work. It's also important for you to be prepared to talk about the principles you follow when designing sites and how you determine whether or not a design is effective during job interviews.
